Explanation
Table 1
Zodiacal Signs are called "star signs" because
they take after a constellation—a picture made by joining
many stars, actually.
It is relevant to know that ancient observers had identified 50
(classic) constellations—e.g., Swan, Great Bear, Southern
Cross, Hercules, etc—but only made 12 into popular star signs,
because the Sun's yearly path goes through these ones, and not through
the others.
In Western Astrology, 6 star signs picture a regular animal—excluding
the goat of Capricorn, because it has a mermaid's tail, and the
horse of Sagittarius, which is a Centaur and has a man's torso.
Only 2 are regular humans, the water-bearer and the twins—excluding
the woman of Virgo, on account of a pair of angel wings sticking
from her back... Libra is the only sign picturing an object, the
scales, and nothing else.
Straight people or mythical creatures, each has a story to tell.
Legends vary in different parts of town, however, and thanks to
cultural interpretation—not to mention what happens when national
esteems get hold of a symbol... But there is no mistaking a common
denominator when you see one. Perhaps because symbols have a universal
thread run through them.
Ideals are no one's pet.
Column 3 shows the (Western) conventional graphics for each star
sign picture. This GLYPH makes it easy to identify and remember
some obvious trait, as the case may be.
SOLAR INGRESS (last column) is the date the Sun ENTERS a new zodiacal
sign—between the 19th and the 23rd each month. Whoever (and
whatever) comes to life from that time and until next ingress is
said to be born under that star sign—for which reason the
latter is also called SUNSIGN ( or Sun Sign.)
In ALL cases, if you were born within 24 hours of INGRESS, you are
"on the Cusp." The blending of two star signs tends to make analysis
more complex, but life is never dull.
Also in ALL cases, if you were born [up to] 36 hours PRIOR to Ingress,
you are "Anaretic". Just the word scares most people away... Traditionally,
it's best to not make too many plans nor set out on a venture when
the Sun is Anaretic, one day each month.
